Nursing Assessment of the Mouth is performed as an important part of a patient's total health assessment. The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system and a big part of the airway for the respiratory system. Prior to beginning any assessment of the mouth, the patient is sometimes advised to remove any dentures or partials. The assessment begins with a dental health questionnaire, including questions about any toothaches, hoarseness, dysphagia(difficulty swallowing), altered taste or a frequent sore throat, current and previous smoking, chewing and alcohol consumption, and any sores, lesions or bleeding of the gums.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=BPG Oral Health ENG - Oral Health Nursing Assessments and Interventions. )〕 ==Lips== thumb Normal Findings * The lips should be symmetrical, pink, smooth, and moist.
